Rooms, dreams and memories
The solo performance Rooms marks the fifth anniversary of Memory Wax. In Rooms, Memory Wax is taking their quiet, cinematic and distinctive expression further to another level. A performance about how we create our own inner and outer rooms, how we frame ourselves and open doors to new possibilities.

“With sincere precision Azcue and co-coreographer Johanna Jonasson fills the fundamental and naked idea with soul, heart and body.” – Boel Gerell, Sydsvenskan

In August 2010, French filmmaker Vincent Moon andEfterklang’s 8 piece-live band met up on an island off the Danish coast. The objective was to shoot a film. A film with the same length as an album, and a film full of performances, experiments and collaborations.
Over an intense period of 4 days Efterklangcollaborated with more than 200 local musicians, kids and their own parents, creating new performances and interpretations of songs from their album Magic Chairs (4AD, Rumraket 2010). It was all filmed by Vincent Moon who same time conducted several filmic and musical experiments with Efterklang as his dedicated playmates.
An Island is an unconventional music performance film and an abstract documentary about a band and an island. The running time is 50 minutes.

Kornél has been doing his best to put Sweden on the rave map, dropping well-placed parties and rounding up armies of revellers like a master Risk strategist all over the country. He’s played alongside international heavyweights like Richie Hawtin and Moodymann, while keeping the airwaves ahead of the curve as the presenter of Sweden’s most popular radio show for electronic music, P3 Dans. He’s also been quietly crafting “non-linear techno and house beats with lots of strössel on top” in the Barnhus studio together with Axel Boman and Petter, testing out the mixes in those warehouse-style Kruthuset parties or internationally renowned temples of boom from the Sónar festival to Tokyo’s Module. It’s only a matter of time until we’ll all be members of the Kornél Kovács Klan.

Matti Nives is a resident DJ at the Helsinki-based We Jazz collective. Dedicated to unleashing raw jazz gems for the dancefloor, his style could be best described as a mix of jazz and latin with a touch of mod plus RnB influences. Given the opportunity, he might also stash a healthy dose of soul and funk in his bag. At We Jazz club nights and DJ sets you’ll also be likely to hear a host of exclusive We Jazz edits, pressed as unique one-off acetate plates and quickly gaining momentum among the Helsinki club scene loyals as well as the listeners of “Lauantaijatsit” (Saturday Jazz), a radio show hosted by Nives & co on the local FM station Bassoradio.

We Jazz is a bi-monthly club night at Helsinki’s Kuudes Linja venue, occasionally hopping to other club spots as well. Thus far these have included the likes of Nublu in New York, The Caves in Edinburgh and so on, plus of course the main Finnish jazz events such as Pori Jazz, Tampere Jazz Happening and the Jyväskylä Arts Festival, to name but a few. The We Jazz club night in Helsinki has been lauded as one of the best club jazz sessions in Europe at the moment by the likes of previous guests Jazzanova, Jazzman Gerald, Povo and Perry Louis of London’s Jazzcotech collective.

The narrative revolves around police officer Amadeus Warnebring, tone-deaf scion of a distinguished musical family, and his attempts to track down a group of six guerilla percussionists whose anarchic public performances are terrorizing the city. The drumming set pieces correspond to an avant-garde score with four hilariously titled movements. Where the short involved the six drummers imaginatively using standard apartment furnishings as their instruments, the feature unleashes them on an unspecified city’s civic and cultural institutions. Including an amusing backstory for each of the soberly dressed drummers as well as their nemesis, music-hating investigator Warnebring, the film creates a treat for the eyes and ears from the dull, repetitive sounds of everyday life.
Directors: Ola Simonsson & Johannes Stjärne Nilsson
